Lotito calls for reforms in Italian Football, addresses UEFA sanctions on Lazio

Start

Claudio Lotito, President of Lazio and Italian Senator, shared his views on necessary reforms in Italian football during the Festival dello Sport in Trento. Lotito touched on various topics, including league restructuring, investment funds, and stadium issues, while emphasizing the changing landscape of club ownership.

Regarding club financing, Lotito stated bluntly, “The idiot patrons who put in money no longer exist. Funds make financial investments, but there are romantics who think that football is didactic and can evoke emotions. We need rules to change the system.”

Lotito also addressed the recent UEFA sanctions imposed on Lazio for racist behavior by a section of fans during the Lazio-Nice match. The club faces a partial stadium closure and a hefty fine. On this matter, Lotito commented, “20 people make a nostalgic salute in the stadium and the company pays, but what responsibility does it have? We need new rules to avoid being held hostage by certain people. We need regulations for facial recognition and then preventive action in schools to enforce rules.”
