Lecce manager Marco Giampaolo addressed the media ahead of his team’s upcoming Serie A match against Bologna, discussing the squad’s condition, tactical considerations, and the impact of new arrivals.
Regarding potential changes to the winning lineup, Giampaolo stated, “We’re gradually recovering the injured players. Some are in differentiated training, but the fact that they’re back on the field is important. I have more doubts for this match, which I’m happy about because it means players are improving and their condition is getting better.”
On facing Bologna, the coach acknowledged the challenge: “We’re playing against a strong team. I’ve watched several of their games, including the last one. They’ve acquired a confidence they didn’t have a few years ago. We need 110% from our side.”
Giampaolo expressed satisfaction with the new signings: “They’ve arrived with enthusiasm, which is very important. Some have more experience, others less but show great potential. They’ve already improved the quality of training with their skills and enthusiasm.”
The manager also praised Helgason’s return to the squad: “My eye caught him from the first training session. He’s doing well now, he’s a calm and serene guy, I’m happy to have another player like him.”
Discussing tactical options, Giampaolo mentioned the positive competition between players: “I’m happy to have both Karlsson and Morente, I know there are differences in characteristics, but both guarantee performance.”
On the keys to the upcoming match, Giampaolo emphasized, “Bologna is an aggressive team that plays forward and has high-quality ball possession. Lecce must play like Lecce, with great humility. We need the support of the home crowd, which is crucial.”
The coach also shared his thoughts on VAR: “VAR is the greatest element of justice adopted by football in recent years. Before, enormous damage was done, many results were very misleading. Today, technology gives us a hand.”
