Lecce have officially announced that defender Kialonda Gaspar has undergone an MRI scan at the Quarta Colosso Radiological Studio in Lecce. The examination revealed a sprain in his right knee with damage to the medial collateral ligament and involvement of the posterior cruciate ligament. The player has already begun conservative treatment under the guidance of the medical staff.
The injury occurred during Saturday evening’s Serie A match against Roma, which ended in a 4-1 victory for the home side. In the build-up to Roma’s fourth goal, scored by Manu Koné, Gaspar collapsed on the field after an unnatural twist of his knee. The severity of the injury was immediately apparent, with opponents and Roma coach Claudio Ranieri quickly calling for medical attention.
Lecce manager Marco Giampaolo commented on the situation post-match, stating, “It’s a significant problem. The doctors have told me that further examinations will be needed to determine the severity, but we risk potentially losing a player for a considerable time in an area of the field where we are currently short-staffed.”
Gaspar, who joined Lecce from Estrela Amadora at the start of the season, has been a key player for the team, featuring in 14 Serie A matches and two Coppa Italia games. His absence will be a significant blow to Lecce’s defensive options as they navigate through a challenging season.
