Lazio’s Sporting Director, Angelo Fabiani, has made headlines with his recent remarks regarding the club’s direction, player roles, and the upcoming transfer window. In an interview with Lazio Style Radio, Fabiani expressed his excitement about the team’s progress and outlined the club’s intentions as they prepare for the new year.

“We are activating all procedures for a public training session at Fersini,” Fabiani announced, highlighting the club’s desire to engage with its supporters ahead of the highly anticipated derby against Roma on January 5. “I’ve talked to the president, and he has shown great willingness to make this happen.”

Reflecting on the team’s current state, Fabiani stated, “We are at 50% of what the club has in mind. It would be a huge mistake to rest on our laurels; we must give impetus to our ideas.” He praised the players for their growing maturity and confidence, attributing much of this development to coach Baroni. “These boys are becoming aware of their abilities and are showing a desire to achieve results,” he added.

Fabiani also addressed the decision to appoint Mattia Zaccagni as captain, saying, “Giving the armband to Mattia means he is a mature and serious player who has embraced our project. Our choices have been shared with some members of the locker room, including Zaccagni.”

In a surprising twist, Fabiani revealed that despite a heavy defeat to Inter earlier this month, he found joy in the fans’ response. “The match that gave me the most joy was the loss against Inter,” he remarked. “I saw the stadium and fans applauding us at the end of the game. This shows the great trust these boys are earning. We are starting to see a winning mentality emerging.”

He also took a moment to remember those who have suffered for Lazio, sending heartfelt thoughts to families connected with the club’s history. “We cannot forget those who made history and suffered for Lazio. From up there, they now watch over us and guide us toward high horizons,” he said.

Regarding potential transfers, Fabiani confirmed interest in Jacopo Fazzini but emphasized that other profiles are being considered as well. “Fazzini is an excellent player,” he stated. “If there’s an opportunity, the club won’t back down. However, we are looking at other profiles too.” He cautioned against overhyping players in the market: “I hate forcing things; overhyping a name is never good.”

Fabiani also discussed Mario Gila’s situation amid interest from Real Madrid. “Lazio has so much charm; I don’t think about the lure of others,” he said confidently. He acknowledged Gila’s growth since joining Lazio and expressed hope that he would remain committed to the club.

As Lazio prepares for a crucial 2025, Fabiani concluded with warm wishes for all fans: “I send a big hug to everyone in the Lazio world. The club is not just one person; it consists of many elements working together.” With optimism for what lies ahead, he added, “May it be a good end of the year and a fantastic start to 2025.”
