Lazio’s sporting director Angelo Fabiani has outlined a “new method with important young players” for the club’s transfer strategy. The Roman club is actively seeking an attacking midfielder, with Barcelona’s Vitor Roque emerging as their primary target.
Calciomercato report how despite the departure of Ciro Immobile, Lazio is not looking for a center-forward, as Noslin can alternate with Castellanos up front. After missing out on Mason Greenwood, who joined Marseille, Lazio continues to scout the market for a player to strengthen their attacking midfield and wing options under Marco Baroni.
Vitor Roque, the 19-year-old Brazilian owned by Barcelona, tops Lazio’s wishlist. The club has initiated contacts to bring the former Athletico Paranaense player to Rome.
However, Barcelona currently cannot register Roque due to La Liga’s financial fair play criteria, which Lazio is trying to leverage. The Catalan club is reluctant to loan out Roque and prefers to monetize their substantial investment from last year.
Lazio are working on a deal similar to what they proposed for Greenwood: a permanent transfer for €20-25 million with Barcelona retaining a 50% sell-on clause.
Meanwhile, Fabiani has ruled out signing James Rodriguez, stating the Colombian doesn’t fit their profile. The club is also considering alternatives such as Sassuolo’s Armand Laurienté, Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham, and Gent’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
President Claudio Lotito has hinted at signing “a strong 2005-born player,” aligning with the profiles of both Roque and the alternative targets, as Lazio looks to reinforce their squad with young talent.
