Claudio Lotito, the president of Lazio, has outlined an ambitious vision for the redevelopment of Stadio Flaminio, aiming to transform it into a modern facility with a capacity of 50,000 seats. In a recent meeting with Rome’s mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, Lotito emphasized the importance of this project not only for Lazio but for the entire city.

“There is collaboration. Our project has been appreciated: we do not want it to be just a stadium for Lazio, but a stadium for Rome that will be used by our team,” Lotito stated. He revealed that the investment for this redevelopment is expected to be around 400 million euros.

While Lotito did not specify a timeline for completion, he expressed urgency regarding the project’s capacity. “We want to shorten the timelines: it will be a facility of about 50,000 seats, and in addition, we are building the Academy in Formello,” he added.

The proposed redevelopment includes significant infrastructure improvements. “We want to close the area to traffic during sporting events. It will be a cathedral of football. We will create park-and-ride facilities, and those with tickets will also have parking included. It will be a flat area that can also be reached by bike,” Lotito explained. He emphasized that specialists have designed these plans to ensure they meet the needs of both fans and the community.

Lotito reassured that all necessary bureaucratic steps are being taken to move forward with the project. “We have prepared everything and will proceed step by step. We will present the official request that we have already prepared and signed. We are on the side of the administration; we are not an opposing party. We want to renovate a stadium that is still owned by the city. This is the only stadium built solely for football, unlike the Olimpico,” he noted.

The Stadio Flaminio has been closed since 2011 and has been largely neglected since then. Lotito’s plans aim to breathe new life into this historic venue, which was originally built for the 1960 Olympics and has served various sporting purposes over the years.
