Lazio dealt blow as Dia contracts malaria in Senegal

Start

Lazio have received troubling news from Senegal regarding their striker Boulaye Dia. The 28-year-old forward has contracted malaria during his time with the national team.

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) officially announced that Dia will be absent from the upcoming national team match. This development poses a significant risk for Lazio, as they may lose the former Salernitana player for an extended period.

The FSF released a statement on their official website explaining Dia’s absence from the match against Burkina Faso, scheduled for Thursday, November 14, 2024, as part of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The statement revealed that Boulaye had contracted malaria and remained in Dakar for treatment.

Interestingly, Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara will also be unavailable for the match, but due to a muscular problem in his adductors.

The FSF’s official communication stated that both Boulaye Dia and Lamine Camara would be withdrawn from the Burkina Faso-Senegal match. It explained that Dia experienced a malaria attack on the day of departure for Bamako, which led to his stay in Dakar to continue treatment. Regarding Camara, the statement mentioned that he had been experiencing pain in his adductors during the last two training sessions.

The federation assured that the national team’s medical staff is closely monitoring the health status of both players.

Dia is expected to return to Italy today for further evaluation and to continue his treatment. Updates will follow to provide a clearer picture of his recovery timeline.
