Following Inter Milan’s dramatic loss to AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana final, Lautaro Martinez shared his thoughts on the match and the team’s performance. Speaking to Mediaset, he acknowledged the challenges faced by Inter after taking a 2-0 lead. “After going up 2-0, we didn’t maintain the same intensity. Credit to Milan for believing in themselves,” he stated.
Martinez highlighted the positives from the first half but recognized the missed opportunities in the second half. “We had some chances after going 0-2 with Mkhitaryan, Frattesi, and even my own opportunity. We weren’t able to manage those moments well, and we lost the game. I don’t know if we deserved to lose, but Milan didn’t stop believing, and they deserve credit for that.”
When asked about what went wrong, Martinez found it difficult to pinpoint a specific reason. “It’s hard to explain. Certainly, attention was a factor; we knew that counter-attacks are Milan’s strongest weapon. We didn’t defend well enough, and we had chances to close out the game but failed to capitalize on them.”
