Rick Karsdorp’s lawyer believes the problems between the player and Roma all stem from the ‘wrongful behaviour of Jose Mourinho.’ The player is expected to leave the Giallorossi in the January transfer window after falling out with the coach shortly before the international break.
Speaking to calciomercato.it, Karsdorp’s lawyer – Salvatore Civale – gave an update on the situation and laid the blame for the situation firmly at the feet of Mourinho:
“Without going into too much detail – as there is an on-going legal procedure –everything stems from the wrongful behaviour of Jose Mourinho. He intervened in the press conference of Sassuolo-Roma and blamed the player for the team’s negative performance.”
When a coach as famous and prominent like Mourinho says such things, this can create a very hostile environment around the player. Karsdorp was the victim of an aggression on the part of Roma supporters, and the authorities have been informed of it.
He was attacked at the airport and also on social media. Calling a player a traitor is very serious and the club has not taken the necessary steps to quiet the situation. Roma have preferred to remain silent. When Mourinho says something like that about a player, it is up to the club to defend the player in question. Instead, Roma put him on the transfer list.
Karsdorp is a professional, as long as there are conditions of physical safety for him and for his family, he is ready to give his utmost to respect the contract he has at the club. I can’t say if a transfer is possible at this time. One thing is certain, Roma do not want to lose him for free.”
