Juventus director Federico Cherubini met with the agent/mother of Adrien Rabiot yesterday to discuss the midfielders future. The Frenchman has a contract with the Bianconeri until June and is free to discuss personal terms with a new club at the end of this month, as Liverpool, Chelsea and a number of European sides continue to follow the player.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the meeting yesterday was not to negotiate terms, but to clarify the position of both parties. The player wants to honour his contract until the end of the season, but is not open to discussing any proposals in the January transfer window.
For Juventus, an immediate transfer would be the only way in which the club could cash in on his exit, however they are also trying to sound out his willingness to negotiate a contract extension.
Rabiot has become a key player in Allegri’s Juve and thanks to the coach, he is one of the best midfielders in the league this season, but the question of renewing with the Bianconeri is still a thorny one.
Veronique is aiming for her son to receive a double-digit wage offer, and her unwillingness to negotiate on caused Rabiot’s move to Manchester United to fall through last summer. For their part, Juve may be prepared to offer a salary in line with Paul Pogba’s, around €8m a season, even if this goes against the new managements ideas to contain costs.
