Juventus maintain stance on Pogba: Seeking mutual termination or considering contract breach

Start

Juventus appear unwilling to change its position regarding Paul Pogba’s future at the club, despite the recent reduction in his doping ban. The club and Pogba’s representatives have been in ongoing discussions to reach a mutual agreement for terminating his contract.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus’ stance is clear from recent statements by club officials, who have referred to Pogba in the past tense. The club’s legal team and Pogba’s representatives have been in constant contact to negotiate a separation, even before the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced his ban from four years to 18 months.

The Bianconeri are keen to part ways with Pogba as part of their transition to a new era under manager Thiago Motta and to reduce costs. Pogba’s current contract, signed in 2022, runs until 2026 with a salary of €8 million net plus €2 million in bonuses – figures that no longer align with Juventus’ new financial approach.

Juventus is also considering Pogba’s lengthy period of inactivity, which began even before his doping suspension due to various physical problems. Since rejoining the club in July 2022, Pogba has made only 12 appearances totaling 213 minutes.

While Juventus continues to seek a mutual termination agreement, they are prepared to unilaterally terminate Pogba’s contract based on breach of contract due to his 18-month doping ban if an agreement cannot be reached. The club aims to resolve the situation before the end of January, allowing Pogba to seek a new club by March when he becomes eligible to play again.

The most likely destination for Pogba appears to be Major League Soccer in the United States, considering both the sporting and lifestyle aspects.
