Real Sociedad’s dynamic midfielder Mikel Merino has emerged as a target for Juventus and several other top clubs across Europe, according to reports. Juventus’ sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli personally scouted the 27-year-old Spanish midfielder during Sociedad’s recent Champions League encounter with Paris Saint-Germain. Despite the team’s disappointing result, Merino’s performance caught Giuntoli’s eye.
Merino, who has less than 18 months remaining on his contract with Real Sociedad, has been a key figure this season, amassing over 2700 minutes of play across 35 appearances. His contributions include six goals and five assists, making him an attractive prospect for potential suitors.
Transfer expert Matteo Moretto and Goal Italia’s Romeo Agresti both report that Juventus have a serious interest in the midfielder, who could be available as a free agent in the summer.
Real Sociedad is reportedly scheduled to hold discussions with Merino in the coming weeks regarding a potential contract extension. However, the club is fully aware of interest from Juventus, as well as other clubs in Spain and England, such as Atletico Madrid.
