Juventus’ January defensive targets: Hancko, Tomori, and more

Start

Juventus are gearing up for a busy January transfer window, with the club’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli focusing on strengthening the defence. The Bianconeri are looking to make two signings, with David Hancko of Feyenoord emerging as the primary target, though his €30 million price tag presents a challenge.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report how Giuntoli recently confirmed the club’s interest in Hancko, describing him as “a good player we’ve been following for some time.” The 27-year-old Slovak defender is versatile, capable of playing both centrally and on the left flank. Hancko has reportedly agreed to a potential January move, but convincing Feyenoord to part with their key player mid-season will be difficult.

Given the financial constraints, Juventus are exploring alternative options. Milan Skriniar from Paris Saint-Germain, formerly of Inter Milan, is being considered as a potential loan signing. Antonio Silva from Benfica, represented by Jorge Mendes (who also manages Francisco Conceição), is another name on the list.

An intriguing new development is the interest in AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori. The English defender has fallen out of favour under Paulo Fonseca, playing just two minutes in the last five league matches. Milan values Tomori between €20-30 million, but Juventus is hoping to secure a loan deal similar to their arrangement for Pierre Kalulu. However, Milan seems reluctant to facilitate such a move at present.

Juventus’ urgency in the transfer market is heightened by injuries to key defenders Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal. There’s also speculation surrounding Danilo’s future, with Napoli, Marseille, and several Premier League clubs showing interest.

Coach Thiago Motta is keen on reinforcing the squad quickly to navigate the challenging schedule ahead, which includes Serie A fixtures, Champions League matches, the Supercoppa Italiana, and Coppa Italia commitments.
