Juventus Eye Kevin Danso as Defensive Reinforcement

Start

Juventus are making waves in the winter transfer market, with Alberto Costa and Kolo Muani already secured as their first two signings. Now, the Italian giants are setting their sights on strengthening their defensive line, potentially with not just one, but two new central defenders. This move comes in response to injuries plaguing Bremer and Cabal, as well as the possible departures of Danilo and Cambiaso.

Calciomercato report that Cristiano Giuntoli, Juventus’ sporting director, has been keeping tabs on several high-profile defenders, including Ronald Araujo from Barcelona, David Hancko from Feyenoord, and Fikayo Tomori from AC Milan. However, a new name has been rapidly climbing the ranks of potential targets: Kevin Danso.

The 27-year-old Austrian international, currently playing for Lens in France, has caught Juventus’ attention. Danso, who joined Lens from Augsburg for €5.5 million in the summer of 2021, has been a consistent performer in Ligue 1. Over his four seasons in France, he has amassed an impressive 128 appearances, contributing 4 goals and 6 assists, while also showing his defensive mettle with 27 yellow cards and 3 red cards.

Interestingly, Danso was on the verge of joining Roma last summer. The Italian club had reached an agreement valued at €25 million, including a loan with an obligation to buy. The deal progressed to the point where Danso flew to Italy for medical examinations. However, the transfer ultimately fell through, and he returned to France.

Following this failed move, Lens made a public statement reassuring fans about Danso’s fitness: “After numerous thorough examinations by world-renowned medical experts, potential uncertainties have been completely eliminated. Kevin Danso is ready to return to competition.”

This season, Danso has already featured in 14 matches, accumulating 1,260 minutes of play and receiving 4 yellow cards. His consistent performances and proven adaptability to top-flight European football make him an attractive prospect for Juventus as they look to bolster their defensive options.
