Juventus expected to look for new options in attack as Milik faces another Injury setback

Start

Juventus’ hopes for Arkadiusz Milik’s return to action have been dealt another blow as the Polish striker has reportedly suffered a new calf injury. This latest setback comes as Milik was nearing his comeback to group training after a prolonged absence due to knee problems.

Gazzetta dello Sport report how the 30-year-old forward has been side-lined since early June when he sustained a knee injury that required surgery. Despite initial optimism, Milik underwent a second operation in autumn as the issue persisted. His recovery has been a drawn-out process, causing him to miss the first half of the season, including the recent Supercoppa Italiana.

Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli had previously expressed confidence in Milik’s condition, suggesting a return was not far off. However, his stance has notably shifted in recent statements, hinting at the club’s need to consider their options in the transfer market due to Milik’s uncertain status.

This latest calf injury adds to the striker’s woes and further complicates Juventus’ attacking plans. With Milik’s return now pushed back indefinitely, the club may be forced to seek reinforcements in the January transfer window to bolster their offensive capabilities.

These circumstances have prompted Giuntoli to take swift action in support of manager Thiago Motta. The club has planned at least three signings for January, targeting two defenders and a striker. As early as next week, they will attempt to secure at least two reinforcements.

Giuntoli, who returned from Saudi Arabia with the team, is looking to accelerate moves for David Hancko from Feyenoord in defense and a loan deal for Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United in attack. These two players top Juventus’ wishlist, and the club is determined to make concrete attempts for both before considering alternatives.

The pursuit of Zirkzee has been ongoing for two months, with the player struggling to settle in the Premier League. Zirkzee is keen to reunite with Thiago Motta, under whom he flourished at Bologna. While Manchester United is open to Zirkzee’s departure, they have not yet agreed to a loan deal. Juventus remains optimistic and plans to make a more concrete approach to United next week.

In defence, David Hancko has been on Juventus’ radar since October. Initially planned as a summer 2025 signing, the serious injuries to Gleison Bremer and Cabal have accelerated the club’s interest. Feyenoord is reluctant to part with the 27-year-old before July and values him at 25-30 million euros. Juventus hopes to leverage their good relationship with Feyenoord to structure a deal.

As alternatives, Juventus are also considering players like Kolo Muani from PSG and Patrik Schick from Bayer Leverkusen. The club has even been offered Marcus Rashford, another Manchester United forward looking for an exit.
