Juventus expand defensive search: Andersen emerges as January target

Start

Juventus are broadening their  search for defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window, looking beyond previously reported targets Milan Skriniar and Radu Dragusin. According to recent reports from Gazzetta dello Sport (via TMW), the Italian giants have also set their sights on Joachim Andersen, the Danish defender currently plying his trade in the Premier League with Fulham.

Andersen, who previously had a stint in Serie A with Sampdoria, is seen as a potentially more economically viable option compared to other profiles being evaluated. The 28-year-old has made six appearances for Fulham this season, including an assist in the EFL Cup.

The Danish international’s career has seen him move from Sampdoria to Lyon for €24 million in 2019, followed by a loan spell at Crystal Palace that turned permanent for around €17 million in 2021. This past summer, he made the switch to Fulham in a deal worth approximately €30 million.

Juventus’ sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, recognizes the urgent need for defensive reinforcement following Gleison Bremer’s season-ending injury. The absence of the Brazilian center-back has significantly impacted Juventus’ defensive solidity, with the team conceding more goals in his absence.

The club’s management, in collaboration with head coach Thiago Motta, are determined to address this defensive vulnerability. By considering a range of options including Andersen, Juventus aims to find an effective solution to shore up their backline for the remainder of the season.
