Juventus’ Daniele Rugani set to join Ajax on loan

Start

Juventus and Daniele Rugani have found a way to part ways in what has been the most complicated summer since the Italian defender signed with the Bianconeri. Despite renewing his contract until June 30, 2026, at the end of May, Rugani found himself outside of new coach Thiago Motta’s technical project. After exploring various options, the player has chosen to join Ajax, with the move expected to be finalized tomorrow.

Calciomercato report that the Dutch club, now managed by former Nice coach Francesco Farioli, has scheduled a medical examination for Rugani tomorrow in Amsterdam. After more than a month of discussions, Ajax and Juventus have agreed on a one-year loan deal. The arrangement is a straight loan without a transfer fee, with Ajax covering a large portion of Rugani’s salary.

To accept the move to Ajax, Rugani turned down several offers from Saudi Arabian clubs, including both Saudi Pro League teams and Al Ain, managed by Hernan Crespo. He also declined interest from Bologna, who had initiated contact with Juventus on Friday but postponed further discussions until after their match today.

Ajax’s swift action convinced not only the player but also his family, who were keen on relocating to a major European city together. This move marks a new chapter in Rugani’s career, offering him the opportunity to play in the Eredivisie and potentially feature in European competitions with the storied Dutch club.
