The long-standing dispute between Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo is set to intensify as the first hearing date has been scheduled following the club’s appeal. Juventus is seeking to recover nearly €10 million from their former star player.
In April, an Arbitration Panel ordered Juventus to pay approximately €9.8 million to Ronaldo regarding unpaid salaries during the so-called “salary maneuver” period. The Portuguese superstar, now playing for Al-Nassr, had initially claimed a total of €19.5 million. Shortly after the ruling, Juventus filed an appeal with the Labor Court, as mentioned in the club’s financial statement for June 30, 2024.
According to La Repubblica, the Labor Court has now set a date in March for the first hearing of the Juventus-Ronaldo case. The judge will decide whether to accept or reject the appeal filed by the Turin-based club.
This legal battle is part of the “extraordinary” costs incurred by Juventus in the past season, as reported by Calcio e Finanza. The dispute with Ronaldo centers on unpaid monthly salaries, while separate provisions have been made for Massimiliano Allegri’s dismissal from the previous season.
Juventus’ financial statement reveals “provisions and other write-downs/value restorations and release of funds for a total of €17.5 million, compared to €5.7 million in 2022/23.” The breakdown of these provisions includes:
– €10,188,000 allocated to a dispute with former registered personnel
– €5,958,000 for expenses related to the dismissal of registered personnel
– €969,000 for additional risk associated with certain disputes
