Juventus’ worst fears have been realized as the club officially confirmed that Juan Cabal has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. The Colombian defender underwent detailed diagnostic tests at J|Medical, which revealed the extent of the injury. The club announced that Cabal will undergo surgery in the coming days, effectively ending his season.
Cabal returned to Turin on Wednesday evening and underwent medical examinations at JMedical on Thursday. The 23-year-old sustained the knee injury while on international duty with Colombia. The South American federation had previously released a statement announcing Cabal’s withdrawal from the national team camp for the World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Ecuador.
The injury is a significant blow to Juventus, who are already grappling with a similar ACL injury to Gleison Bremer. This latest setback leaves manager Thiago Motta with limited defensive options. Currently, the squad’s defensive lineup includes Danilo, Gatti, and Kalulu, with Savona, Cambiaso, and Rouhi available as wide defenders.
Given the severity of Cabal’s injury, it’s likely he won’t return to action until next season. This development is expected to push Juventus and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli to intensify their search for defensive reinforcements in the upcoming transfer market.
The club expressed its support for Cabal, wishing him a speedy recovery and a swift return to sporting activities. However, the reality of ACL injuries suggests a lengthy rehabilitation process, typically ranging from 6 to 9 months.
