Juventus are making significant strides in the January transfer market, with their primary focus on strengthening their defensive options. The Italian giants are currently in advanced negotiations with Chelsea to secure the services of Renato Veiga, a promising 21-year-old defender who has caught the eye of several top European clubs.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that sources close to the situation indicate that Juventus is nearing an agreement with Chelsea for Veiga. The Portuguese youngster, who joined Chelsea just last summer, has made 18 appearances across all competitions this season, showcasing his versatility by featuring in the Premier League, Conference League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup.
Interestingly, Juventus’ pursuit of Veiga does not rule out their interest in Lloyd Kelly from Newcastle United. The Bianconeri are still considering a move for the 26-year-old English defender, provided the conditions are favorable. Kelly has been a consistent performer for Newcastle this season, appearing in 13 matches, including nine in the Premier League.
Juventus’ sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, is working diligently to reinforce the squad, with defense being a priority. The potential acquisition of Veiga is seen as a coup for Juventus, given the player’s potential and the competition they faced from other clubs, including Borussia Dortmund.
While the details of the Veiga deal are being finalized, it’s believed to be a loan arrangement until the end of the 2024-25 season. This move would provide Veiga with more playing time and the opportunity to develop in one of Europe’s top leagues.
