Juric reflects on Europa League draw Athletic Bilbao: “There were moments of great football, and the stadium could feel it”

Roma manager Ivan Juric shared his thoughts following the team’s 1-1 draw against Athletic Club in the Europa League. The Italian side took the lead but conceded a late equalizer, leaving Juric with mixed emotions about the result.

“There were moments of great football, and the stadium could feel it,” Juric remarked. He noted that Athletic Club’s style of play, characterized by long balls and quick transitions, caused Roma difficulties as the match progressed. “It’s a real shame to have conceded a goal at the end. Soulé could have scored in the second half as well,” he added.

Regarding the equalizing goal, Juric defended his team’s setup: “Angelino can jump well despite being short. We had Hermoso and other defenders there. The boys played an excellent match overall.”

When asked about Paulo Dybala’s substitution, Juric revealed: “He felt some discomfort, and we didn’t want to take any risks. It’s pointless to discuss it now; we’ll see tomorrow. The change wasn’t planned; it was forced.”

Reflecting on Roma’s approach to the game, Juric commented: “We were a bit slow in the first ten minutes, but then we loosened up and played well. We could have scored more. In these two matches, there have been many positive things, and we need to continue on this path.”

The manager also praised young players Baldanzi and Pisilli: “They are young but have impressive application and ease of learning. Tommaso can play as an attacking midfielder or central midfielder. I know De Rossi had also considered him for midfield.”
