Roma manager Ivan Juric addressed the media in Sweden on the eve of his team’s Europa League match against Elfsborg, expressing optimism about the squad’s potential for improvement.
Juric acknowledged Roma’s rocky start to the Serie A season but highlighted their recent upturn in form. “We started badly in the league, but with these two victories we have recovered some ground,” he stated. The Croatian tactician emphasized the importance of performing well in European competition, indicating his intention to utilize the full squad depth while maintaining a balanced approach to team selection.
The Roma boss outlined his tactical vision, focusing on possession-based football. “The idea is to have the ball ourselves, to have possession and move it. The players have these qualities that will enable us to play this way,” Juric explained. He was particularly enthusiastic about the team’s potential, stating, “Honestly, I see a huge margin for improvement with this group, lots of potential.”
Regarding team selection, Juric mentioned that a decision on starting recent arrival Mats Hummels would be made on matchday, noting the importance of error-free performances in defensive roles. He also indicated that a decision was pending on whether to start striker Artem Dovbyk.
Juric spoke respectfully of Elfsborg and their coach, Oscar Hiljemark, praising the Swedish side’s aggressive and direct style of play. He warned against complacency, emphasizing, “Tomorrow will be a battle, we cannot afford to drop our level and underestimate the opponent.”
