Jorginho Set for Flamengo Move: Arsenal Midfielder to Join Brazilian Giants on Free Transfer

Start

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is on the verge of agreeing to a summer move to Brazilian club Flamengo. The Italian international, who has spent years plying his trade in Italy and England, is set to return to South America when his contract with Arsenal expires in June.

Calciomercato report that negotiations between Jorginho and Flamengo’s sporting director José Boto, formerly of Shakhtar Donetsk and Benfica, have reached an advanced stage. The 33-year-old is reportedly finalizing the details of a pre-contract agreement with the Rio de Janeiro-based club, paving the way for a free transfer at the end of the current season.

Flamengo had initially attempted to secure Jorginho’s services during the January transfer window, approaching Arsenal with hopes of an immediate free transfer. However, the Gunners rebuffed these advances, citing the need to maintain squad depth and the difficulty in finding a suitable replacement with only days remaining in the transfer window.

Despite Arsenal’s reluctance to part ways with the player mid-season, it appears increasingly likely that Jorginho will complete his move to Flamengo in June. The proposed contract is expected to span three years, running from June 2025 to June 2028, signalling a significant commitment from both the player and the Brazilian club.

Should the transfer materialize, Jorginho would join another former Serie A player, Danilo, who recently made the switch from Juventus to Flamengo in January.
