Joao Felix to Milan: The Potential Costs and Complications of a January Move

Start

AC Milan’s search for a new attacking player has taken an interesting turn as they shift their focus from Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford to Chelsea’s Joao Felix. With Marcus Rashford now seemingly caught in a tug-of-war between Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, the Rossoneri are exploring alternative options to bolster their offensive lineup.

Calciomercato report that the 25-year-old Portuguese international, Felix, has emerged as a potential target for Milan. Currently on the fringes at Chelsea, Felix shares the same agent as Milan’s manager Sergio Conceição, which could potentially facilitate negotiations. However, the financial aspects of any potential deal present significant challenges.

Felix’s current salary at Chelsea stands at €5.7 million per year, including bonuses. The London club acquired him just last summer for €52 million, and according to recent reports, they are not open to a loan deal. This stance complicates Milan’s pursuit, as a permanent transfer would likely require a substantial investment.

While Felix’s market value may have slightly decreased since his move to Chelsea, it’s unlikely that the Blues would accept less than €40-45 million for the player. Additionally, Milan would need to factor in the commission fees for Felix’s agent, Jorge Mendes, further increasing the overall cost of the operation.

From a tactical perspective, Felix could fit well into Conceição’s system. Capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or as a winger in a front three, he offers versatility in the final third. His ability to cut inside from the left flank and either create chances for teammates or take shots himself could add a new dimension to Milan’s attack.

Despite limited opportunities at Chelsea this season, Felix has managed to contribute seven goals and two assists in 19 appearances across all competitions, mostly as a substitute. This productivity, coupled with his potential to play multiple positions, makes him an intriguing prospect for Milan.

However, the financial hurdles remain significant. With Chelsea reluctant to loan out the player and Milan likely unable to meet the high transfer fee, the pursuit of Joao Felix remains a complicated endeavour.
