Italy’s Kean doubtful for Nations League matches, Spalletti calls up Lucca

Start

As club football takes a break, the focus shifts to national teams. Luciano Spalletti’s Italy squad continues its UEFA Nations League campaign with two matches during the October international break.

The Azzurri are set to face Belgium in Rome on Thursday, October 10, followed by a clash with Israel in Udine on Monday, October 14.

The national team gathered at Coverciano yesterday evening and is scheduled for their first training session today. However, there’s an early concern for the squad as Moise Kean’s fitness is in question. The Fiorentina striker reported with lower back pain, and his condition will be closely monitored.

In response to this uncertainty, head coach Spalletti has decided to add Udinese forward Lorenzo Lucca to the list of called-up players. Lucca will join the group in the coming hours, marking his return to the national team seven months after his first call-up for friendlies against Venezuela and Ecuador in the United States.

The Italian Football Federation released a statement confirming these developments:

“The national team gathered yesterday evening at Coverciano and will hold their first training session this afternoon in preparation for the UEFA Nations League matches against Belgium (October 10, Rome) and Israel (October 14, Udine).

This morning, the medical staff will assess the condition of Fiorentina striker Moise Kean, who is experiencing lower back pain. As a precautionary measure, Coach Luciano Spalletti has decided to include Udinese striker Lorenzo Lucca in the list of called-up players.”
