Italiano: ‘We want to start scoring points straight away, Genk are fearsome and valuable.’

Speaking at Cegeka Arena, Fiorentina head coach Vincenzo Italiano addressed the media in a press conference about their upcoming Europa Conference League match against Genk.

La Viola managed to reach the final last season but suffered a 2-1 defeat against West Ham United. Italiano has spoken about the quality of teams in this year’s tournament, his team selection for tomorrow and on forward M’Bala Nzola:

On Conference League opponents: “This year I have seen that there are many high-level opponents, this draw we accept and will face them all with the utmost attention. Last year we suffered on some occasions not for underestimating, but for lack of knowledge of the opponent. We want to start scoring points straight away, Genk are fearsome and valuable.”

On who will play in goal tomorrow: “Last year we played the goalkeeper game. This year we change, given that we lost the final… This year we are undecided whether to entrust a competition to one and the championship to another. Christensen is young, smart and with a perspective, he comes from different methods and philosophies, so he will have to adapt and little by little he will get into full swing. Furthermore, he is a boy who wants to learn Italian quickly…”.

On Nzola: “He must feel comfortable showing off his qualities, that is, constantly attacking the depths and protecting the ball, trying to be the offensive key that he has done in many moments up to now. Then perhaps not finding goals can make you suffer a little, but he has all our trust.”
