Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano hit out at his strikers following their 1-0 defeat to Milan: “In those situations you have to score”. La Viola were in the match for large periods but failed to capitalise in the final third, something Italiano was keen to point out in the post-match:
“Mandragora’s final chance: unfortunately on these occasions we lacked the ferocity to score. It’s not the first time that we have taken the match into our own hands and we don’t find the right cue up front. ”
“What we lack is being decisive, concreteness. Especially in the final 20 minutes we deserved more. I am bitter, we closed Milan down in their half of the pitch, we had to bring home at least a point”.
“In these two years we have often found ourselves finding solutions, changing systems, mixing strategies. Our strikers cannot go home happy today, we are sorry. We are in all competitions though, we must continue to do well.
“Kayode? The last two training sessions he has intensified. At the beginning of the week he tried but stopped because of pain, today we preferred to leave him at home and let his ankle improve. I hope he can be available for the next one.
“Beltran had a great chance in the second half. In those shots you have to score goals. He was coming from a period of recovery, we all saw him work, including Nzola. On that occasion he had to do more, the ball had to go in, no matter what.”
