Vincenzo Italiano believes there’s been a ‘surge in quality’ in the Conference League, with ‘formidable opponents.’ The Viola have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the competition following a 1-1 draw with Maccabi Haifa, and after the match, Italiano expressed his satisfaction with the teams progress this season:
“It’s a source of joy for us to be among the top eight teams,” Italiano expressed. “This year, the competition has seen a surge in quality with formidable opponents. Advancing to the next stage was crucial for us, and I believe the players delivered commendably, perhaps even bolstered by my absence from the sidelines. Jokes aside, I’ll do everything to ensure it doesn’t happen again; it’s too agonizing to endure.”
Regarding Dodò’s comeback, Italiano stated, “I had already planned to reward him for his strong efforts and recovery. He’s a pivotal player whose return to form is invaluable. In the coming months, we’ll need every player at their best.”
Addressing Nico Gonzalez’s condition, Italiano reassured, “Nico is doing well; he’s recovered. Today’s match didn’t demand an intense pace, and we adapted to the opponents’ approach. We’re eager for him to return at full strength because he has much to offer. Quality players like him will be essential in the months ahead.”
Italiano emphasized the strength of the team as a collective, saying, “I’m pleased that this aspect is highlighted. Having everyone involved at this stage of the season will make the difference. Players like Barak, who is steadily improving, and Mandragora, who provides stability, are crucial. We want everyone to contribute something to the team. In March, there aren’t many teams still competing on three fronts, which is why we need many players.”
On the topic of the future, Italiano reiterated, “As I mentioned in the press conference, our priority is the end of the season. I maintain what I said: I have a great relationship with the entire club; we discuss and plan for what lies ahead. We’ll see how things unfold later on. The important thing is to provide some satisfying moments and perhaps a trophy for our President.”
