Bologna suffered their second consecutive Champions League defeat, losing 2-0 to Aston Villa. After the match, manager Vincenzo Italiano shared his thoughts on his team’s performance in an interview with Sky Sport.
Italiano began by discussing the game: “Today again, against a strong team in all aspects, I think the boys had a little less quality compared to the game against Liverpool, but we tried to play vertically. In my opinion, there was a foul on Fabbian for the first goal. However, I can say that the boys were focused today as well.”
The Bologna coach continued, emphasizing the need for improvement: “We all need to give something more, myself first and foremost. We need to try to pay even more attention to details. If anyone thinks they’ve given 100%, from tomorrow we need to raise the level even higher. I believe we could have collected more points both in the Champions League and in Serie A. If we continue to work, we’ll soon get good satisfaction.”
Italiano concluded the interview by focusing on the positives and areas for improvement: “The positive thing is that we continue to talk about production and the fact that we create chances even against strong teams. I’m convinced that my players up front have something different in their locker in front of goal. I don’t know what the spark might be, but for me, it will ignite through training. We need to find more composure and venom in front of goal.”
