Italiano: ‘It’s not the first time that we’ve lost points like this’

Start

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano believes his side is continuing to pay the cost for refereeing errors following their 4-3 defeat to Inter. La Viola fought their way back into the game three times, but had reason to be aggrieved when Federico Dimarco failed to pick up a booking for what looked to be a straight red card for a high tackle on Giacomo Bonaventura.

Speaking in a press conference after the game, Italiano was rueful and explained the match as he saw it:

There’s great regret for not taking points because today our goal was to move up in the standings. We couldn’t do it, to recover points and positions, ending it on 3-3 would have been like a victory for us.

What is missing? We have to find some balance, in the last few games we have managed to unlock the problem a bit. We are making some adjustments in the attack. Unfortunately, every situation we concede in, we complicate our lives.

We must also push hard with the teams with which we must necessarily score points. With the big teams we are able to perform but we are leaving points behind, we could have 4-5 more. We have to search for them both far from Florence and here.

In the second half, another striker was needed that could bind with Arthur (Cabral) and give physicality: the solution paid off. We are trying different ones and I am convinced that if the kids start scoring, we can find results. Refereeing? It is not the first time, I never argue, however, it is not the first time that we lose points for some foul or situation, we continue to pay for it.

Twenty seconds from the end,  Dzeko pulls Milenkovic’s shirt and for me it’s a foul. The referee assessed it differently and we lose the game.

Jovic and Cabral? I think it takes balance, the moment you are overtaken with four attackers on the pitch it is tough….. We exposed ourselves but today it had to be done like this.”
