Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano believes his team showed character following their 3-2 win over Atalanta. La Viola found themselves behind early on after Teun Koopmeiners put the visitors ahead, but Giacomo Bonaventura and Lucas Martinez edged Fiorentina into a 2-1 lead. Ademola Lookman bought things back to 2-2, before a late Christiano Kouame goal secured the win.
Speaking with DAZN after the match, Italiano praised his sides’ character for the comeback, insisting that the players were keen to improve after the 4-0 hammering at the hands of Inter before the international break:
“Winning in a comeback doesn’t happen often, it makes us happy. We want to improve the aspect of not giving up the match, as happened in Milan. Today we did that, showing that we have character. A nice response after the 4-0 loss to Inter.”
“In Milan, for the last half hour we had left the pitch. We worked on that, and it bothered us to live these last 15 days amid some grumbling and controversy. We were eager to make up for it.”]
“Parisi? In the first 20 minutes he must have touched the ball around 70 times. When you become the director of the game you have to become qualitative, take space. At the end of the first half we put something in front, trying to force it. We needed this win.”
“I love it when the subs score: it means the group is cohesive. Koaumé? He is a great team man, he has the spirit of a mature player. I would go to war with him: he never abandons you.”
