Italian clubs targeting De Zerbi

Start

Several Serie A clubs would be keen to make Roberto De Zerbi their next manager.

The managerial positions at Milan, Roma, Inter, and Juventus are all facing an unknown future.

According to Matt Law of The Telegraph, this has led all four clubs to become interested in and shortlist De Zerbi as a potential successor to their current respective managers.

De Zerbi, 43, only joined Brighton & Hove Albion in September after Chelsea suddenly poached Graham Potter and his coaching staff, but the Italian has made an immediate positive impact at the South coast club, guiding them to 7th place in the Premier League. He previously gained plaudits for his spells in charge of Benevento and Sassuolo in Serie A.

Inter and Roma’s board of directors are set to hold in-house discussions concerning the futures of their Simone Inzaghi and Jose Mourinho, respectively, whilst Stefano Pioli has failed to maintain Milan’s form from last season. Massimiliano Allegri’s position at Juventus, moreover, has consistently been shaky since he rejoined the club.

De Zerbi, noteworthily, came through the ranks at Milan but ultimately failed to make a first team appearance, leaving his academy club permanently in 2001. Law reports that sources in Italy have claimed De Zerbi’s contract at Brighton holds a €13m release clause.
