Inter manager Simone Inzaghi addressed the media ahead of the Supercoppa final against AC Milan, emphasizing the importance of the match and discussing key player availability.
Inzaghi, seated behind the Supercoppa trophy but careful not to touch it due to superstition, acknowledged the unique nature of this final: “The derby is exciting, reminding us of wonderful matches but also the last one, a defeat we deserved. We’ll try not to repeat those mistakes. Winning would be extremely important, it would be Inter’s fourth consecutive Supercoppa and winning with this new format is even more significant.”
Regarding the tactical approach, Inzaghi noted: “Milan has players with pace and explosiveness, but we focus on what we need to do. We’ll need to be good at managing the ball in the best way possible.” This suggests a focus on possession as a key strategy against Milan’s dynamic players, particularly Theo Hernandez.
The status of Marcus Thuram remains uncertain, with Inzaghi stating: “We’ll see how Marcus’s training goes today, but when we return, we’ll have many games in 18 days… We’ll evaluate.” This comment hints at a cautious approach, suggesting Thuram may not feature in the starting lineup or perhaps even on the bench.
Inzaghi also touched on his relationship with Milan’s coach Sergio Conceicao: “We haven’t seen or spoken to each other since then [their disagreement in 2023], but absolutely nothing happened. There was an important round of 16 match at stake. At Lazio, we spent many years together, sharing locker rooms and victories, with a great master like Eriksson who greatly influenced the direction of many players who later became coaches.”
He praised Conceicao’s coaching style: “Sergio is a vertical coach, he gives great organization, his teams never give up. Juventus seemed to have the game in hand, but Milan deserved to qualify with a great second half.”
