Inzaghi: ‘We played an excellent match in all respects’

Start

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi says it was a ‘pleasure’ to watch his side in their 1-0 Derby win over Milan last night. The Nerazzurri edged the match but the score line failed to reflect their true dominance in what looked a very one-sided game, Lautaro Martinez scoring the only goal. Speaking with DAZN (via FCInterNews) after the game, Inzaghi reflected on their performance, a second derby win over Milan in just three weeks:

Where do you put this victory in you ranking of matches since you’ve been at Inter?

“I don’t know. I congratulated the team, we dominated. We won two derbies in 20 days, the first one gave us a trophy and a great satisfaction. Now we think about us, we try to recover players like Lukaku and Brozovic. Let’s not look ahead or behind, let’s remember that on Tuesday we played a very tough Coppa Italia quarter-final against Atalanta.”

What did you think in front of Milan’s formation?

“There was a lot of talk about Milan’s changes in formation, but I focused on us. We were coming from an excellent game against Atalanta, winning a derby in this way is very pleasing.”

Is Lautaro on the pace to become the leader of this team?

“He has been playing since January at an amazing level, he has a constant performance despite not being able to give him any rest. He deserves it for his daily work, but to speak only of him is reductive. Tonight we had a match where it was a pleasure to see them on the pitch. The only flaw was keeping the game in the balance until the end, but we spent so much on Tuesday because we wanted the Italian Cup semifinals. We could have been more precise in the final phase, but I have little to say to the boys. We played an excellent game from every point of view.

Why did Inter look different today than they did in the first part of the season?

“We made some mistakes, but we lost two players like Lukaku and Brozovic for four months, no one can afford to lose those two. But in these four months we have won a Champions League round of 16, won a Super Cup and will play the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia. We have 43 points, it could have been more but now we have to move on and think about us.

Doesn’t the desire to look ahead come?

“We have to think about ourselves, be focused on what we are doing. Since the defeat against Roma we have won 10 games out of 13, we can still improve and we will do so from here until the end.”
