Simone Inzaghi is encouraged by the strong start his Inter side have made but insists they have to continue like this. The Nerazzurri brushed aside Fiorentina in a one-sided 4-0 victory which included a debut goal for Marcus Thuram and a Lautaro Martinez brace. Chatting with DAZN in the post-match, Inzaghi pointed to the hard-work of his team, particularly the defence and desire to not concede goals in this early part of the season:
“We’ve played three great games, we’ve been working well since the return to training in July. We have to continue like this for the club and the fans. It’s only the beginning but we know we have to continue like this. Thuram was very good today but I also liked him a lot in the other two games. I wanted him to find the goal and I’m happy he did. He played very well, as did all those who were on the pitch and also those who took over”.
“There is a desire not to concede goals. So far we have conceded little, thanks to everyone, not just the defence. The sacrifice of the midfielders has also been good and especially the forwards. It’s only the beginning but we want to continue like this. Lautaro as top scorer? Of course we hope so, he has the qualities to do it. But apart from the goals it’s also nice to see how he sacrifices himself for the team in the non-possession phase. I’m very satisfied, he’s done very well over the years with me. He is a leader and he must continue in this way.”.
“We know what the derby represents for the fans and the club. Now there’s the break and many will go to the national team. We’ll wait for them. Some will have very close matches and many hours of flight time, but we knew that. The boys are obviously happy to go and defend the colours of their country. We are expecting them, they will arrive between Wednesday and Thursday. We will try to prepare for the game as best we can, just like Milan. These first three games have been spaced out and I have played the same ones. Now we have seven games in 22 days. We need everyone in all positions.
“After the break we’ll also recover Acerbi, Sanchez and Sensi, so I’ll have even more choice. Then playing every three days I will change my set-up from game to game. Klassen only did finishing yesterday. We know him, he’ll give us a hand. Pavard has done two training sessions. I wanted to put him in, but I preferred to put Asllani in, he deserved it. I strongly bet on him, he’s very strong. Stronger squad than last year? Time will tell. All the new guys have great desire. The new players are fitting in very well.”
