Inzaghi: “Tomorrow will be very important”

Start

With the Nerazzurri set to take on Viktoria Plzen at the San Siro within match-week five of the Champions League, Inter boss Inzaghi previewed the significant fixture in a press conference.

Despite their rough start to this year’s campaign, Inzaghi’s side seem to have overcome their underwhelming run of form as they are currently on a three-game unbeaten streak within the Serie A following their thrilling 4-3 victory against Fiorentina over the weekend.

Furthermore, La Beneamata have managed to go against all the odds within the Champions League as they seized four points from Spanish giants Barcelona across both fixtures.

As a result, Inter have a major opportunity within their hands tomorrow evening to secure their spot into the Round of 16 as only a victory over Viktoria Plzen would be all that is needed in order to progress into the knockout stage.

Ahead of the vital fixture, via Calciomercato, Inzaghi spoke to the media providing his insight on the significance of making it out of the Group-stage:

Last year we were the second best defense and we played 7-8 games without conceding a goal. We need to grow, when we talk about the defensive phase we are not just talking about the defenders but the whole team. Tomorrow will be very important, we are in the same conditions as last year but with a much more difficult starting situation. We want to qualify tomorrow because doing it in Monaco would be very complicated.”

In addition, the Emilian tactician briefly touched upon Milan Skriniar’s contract situation with the Nerazzurri:

I am fortunate to have very good executives who are thinking about it. We have other players in the same situation as Skriniar and we hope it can be resolved. Milan is growing sharply, it came from an injury and was suffering but now it is clearly growing and we hope that as regards the contract it can be resolved, for him and for others in the same situation as him.”

Finally, the gaffer discussed how Romelu Lukaku’s presence on the pitch can help Inter improve within the attacking phase of the game:

He has enthusiasm and desire, is in clear recovery and for us it is very important. He was two months away, a serious loss, but the other forwards did well. In football you always have to improve and we have always scored, except against Bayern. We hope to improve further with Lukaku.”
