Simone Inzaghi has defended his team selection post-match after his Inter side drew 1-1 away to Real Sociedad in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Despite being rather fortunate to take a point away from Reale Arena, Inzaghi has stated that: “The whole team suffered in the first half. I need everyone. I would have also liked to make a few more changes.’

Lautaro Martinez was able to rescue a late point for the Nerazzurri after Brais Mendez had put the hosts ahead after just four minutes of play. Speaking to Prime Video after the game, Inzaghi was in support of his team’s togetherness and was also questioned about his selection choices:

“We faced a worthy opponent, we did well. We suffered in the first hour, we were good at sticking together. We take this point and we have seen firsthand what I said: Real Sociedad is a great team.”

“The choices? It’s always easy to talk afterwards. The boys are playing a lot, I changed four elements. The whole team suffered in the first half. I need everyone. I would have also liked to make a few more changes, I will always do this because playing every 48-72 hours takes up a lot of energy.”

“I had a lot of tired players, I changed four from Sunday, in the first half all Inter suffered, not just four. Sommer helped us stay in the game and we did well in the last 20 minutes.”
