On the eve of the Inter-Atalanta Supercoppa match, Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi shared his thoughts in a press conference. The match, scheduled for Thursday evening in Riyadh, marks the first semifinal of the second edition of the four-team Italian Supercoppa. Inter has won the last three editions of this competition.
Inzaghi began by emphasizing the team’s consistent goals: “The objectives for 2025 are identical to when I arrived three and a half years ago. We represent Inter and must always aim for the maximum.” He added, “At this moment, our focus is on winning as many matches and trophies as possible. The closest one begins tomorrow evening, a Supercoppa that means a lot to us and that we want to win.”
Regarding the challenge against Atalanta, Inzaghi acknowledged the strength of both teams: “Two teams with great trajectories, both in the league and in Champions League, will face each other. Atalanta’s greatest achievement, beyond winning the Europa League last year, is being at the highest levels for years.” He stressed the difficulty of the match, stating, “It will be extremely challenging for us, as all matches with Atalanta have always been. We’ll need a great Inter performance against an opponent in excellent form.”
Inzaghi highlighted Inter’s current good form but cautioned about potential challenges: “We are in an excellent moment, but we know that pitfalls are around the corner. We have some numerical difficulties regarding defenders, with Acerbi and Pavard staying home, whom we hope to recover in the first half of January.” He also mentioned Di Gennaro’s hand injury but assured that the rest of the team is fit and ready to field a competitive lineup.
The Inter coach emphasized the importance of the Supercoppa: “It’s a very big objective. We’ve been title holders for three years. We want to play a great game to reach the final, but we know that three other teams have the same goal as Inter.” He acknowledged the challenges ahead, starting with the match against Atalanta, currently leading the Serie A standings.
Addressing previous matches against Gasperini’s team, Inzaghi remarked, “Past results don’t play on the field; they don’t bring points. We know that this year we met when the transfer market was still open. Atalanta had many absences then, but since that game, they’ve had three and a half excellent months in all competitions.” He concluded by recognizing Atalanta’s strengths: “We know each other; we’ve played many times against them. They’re an excellent physical team with many qualities.”
