Simone Inzaghi confirmed that Alexis Sanchez will start for Inter in their Champions League match with RB Salzburg. The Nerazzurri will be without Benjamin Pavard, who looks set to miss two months of the season, but squad depth is something Inzaghi is thankful for, ahead of a crucial European tie:
“We know the importance of tomorrow night’s match, we are up against an opponent who have already shown their value at the San Siro,” Simone Inzaghi began in the conference. “Salzburg are a physical team, who run a lot and have excellent players. We face a team of all respect, who have always done well in Europe”.
“Every game I have to make choices and tomorrow there will certainly be some changes. We have a rich squad at our disposal and I have to try to use it as much as possible. We are losing Pavard, who had fitted in very well both on a technical-tactical level and in the dressing room. But in this period we did well despite the absence of Arnautovic and Cuadrado: we’ll wait for him to come back and help us out. For sure Sanchez will start, he’s doing well and I’ll have to consider whether to let Thuram or Lautaro play first”.
“Dumfries had not recovered fully to train, I spoke to the doctor. He’s in the squad, I don’t know if he will start. I’ve got Bisseck, De Vrij, I can put Carlos Augusto there, so I have options. We could also push Darmian further up.”
“Frattesi and Barella? They played the second half together against Salzburg very well, we’ll see tomorrow. I can say Frattesi will start, we need to see the other two. Davy Klaassen also deserves playing time, he is doing well in training, but I have to make my choices for the good of Inter.”
“We analysed what happened a week ago at the San Siro. We expected it because they win the league every year and make the Champions League every year. Tomorrow night here in their stadium will be even more difficult. It will take the best Inter team, we know the importance of the match and we will try to play an important game.
“We knew there were a lot of away games waiting for us, starting with tomorrow, which will be tricky.
