In a surprising turn of events, Inter Milan’s streak of six consecutive derby victories came to an end as they fell to AC Milan 2-1, with Gabbia scoring the decisive goal in the 89th minute. Following the match, Inter’s manager Simone Inzaghi shared his thoughts on his team’s performance in an interview with DAZN.
When asked about AC Milan’s potential to compete for the Scudetto, Inzaghi was unequivocal: “Absolutely yes, Milan is an excellent team. Tonight they performed better than us and deserved the victory.”
Inzaghi didn’t mince words when discussing his team’s performance: “We approached the game poorly and didn’t play as a team, which rarely happens to us. We lacked compactness, lost our distances, and conceded too many balls inside that penalized us.”
He further elaborated on the team’s lack of cohesion: “We never gave the impression of being a team as we have been for the past three years. We must work and analyze because tonight we never gave the sensation of being a team as we have been for the past three years.”
The Inter manager highlighted the importance of game starts: “The approaches are decisive in matches and they were today for my team.” He also pointed out the team’s mental state: “The feeling is that we were a bit empty-headed because we usually do these things much better.”
Addressing his in-game changes, Inzaghi explained: “We approached both halves poorly, especially the second, so I tried to make changes. Barella had a small problem, but I made three substitutions because we had gone badly in the first quarter of an hour. I tried to change something, but very little changed.”
Inzaghi acknowledged the potential for growth from this setback: “After a defeat, you think about that. Unfortunately, I’m sorry because I had seen the boys well and focused these two days. We had worked well in the little time we had. Unfortunately, the approach to the game, especially in the second half, was not good.”
He concluded with a forward-looking perspective: “Clearly we will analyze and work even harder because we’ve lost some points in the league and this defeat hurts.”
