Inter Milan clinched a crucial 1-0 victory against RB Leipzig in their Champions League encounter, thanks to an own goal by Lukeba. The win solidifies Inter’s position at the top of their group and brings them closer to securing a spot in the top eight.

In the post-match interview, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. “We are satisfied because we knew the importance of tonight’s match,” Inzaghi stated. “Even though they had zero points in the standings, they are a quality team. We played an excellent game. The boys did well. The only flaw is not having scored the second goal, although the team suffered little.”

Inzaghi acknowledged the team’s strong position in the group but remained cautious about their progression. “There is satisfaction with the standings, but we know that to reach the top eight, we still need to take a big step,” he said. “We’ve had an excellent run, and it’s a reason for satisfaction, considering the opponents we’ve faced.”

The Inter coach praised his team’s maturity in handling the pressure of the match. “I was very wary of this game, but I have a mature team,” Inzaghi remarked. He also highlighted missed opportunities that could have changed the game’s direction, particularly mentioning Dumfries’ chance.

When asked about the Champions League final being the ultimate objective, Inzaghi responded, “That’s the goal of all teams, especially for someone like me who coaches a team like Inter. It’s not simple because playing so much is no small feat. I’m fortunate to have these players.”

Addressing the team’s slight dip in performance towards the end of the match, Inzaghi explained, “Not having scored the second goal, we lowered a bit in the last 20 minutes. The team was good at maintaining distances. Playing every two and a half days, you need to try to play as many players as possible.”
