A world-class cameo by Lautaro Martinez piled on the misery for Salernitana on Saturday night as Inter dismantled Paulo Sousa’s side 4-0 in Salerno. The Argentina international managed to hit four for the Nerazzurri despite head coach Simone Inzaghi not putting him on until around ten minutes into the second half.
Inzaghi was interviewed by DAZN post-match as he shared his thoughts on the Inter captain, growing from last season’s Champions League run and Alexis Sanchez:
On Martinez: “Tonight he started on the bench to catch his breath, he was coming from many close games, he always gives everything he has, he never gives up and he needed a rest. He was as good as his teammates who gave him some excellent balls. He has always done well since his early years, he has always played a lot, now he is captain he feels more like a leader but he has always worked well. He has put in a lot of experience, he has won many trophies, he is world champion.”
On growth from the Champions League run: “Mentally it has given us a lot but since July 13th the boys have been working well on our principles, we have been together for a long time, they must continue like this, we are working hard, I need everyone’s contribution because sometimes we return from away games late in the evening and then you have to prepare matches in a short time like the one on Tuesday against Benfica.”
On Alexis Sanchez: “I was thinking, Sanchez and Thuram were both doing well, I opted for more physicality but Sanchez is doing a great job and he has to continue like this.”
