Simone Inzaghi says his Inter side should have defended better in their 1-1 draw with Genoa: “Injuries are not an excuse”. The Nerazzurri took the lead through Marko Arnautovic before Radu Dragusin levelled things for Genoa from a set-piece. Inter were missing both Lautaro Martinez and Federico Dimarco for the match, but speaking with DAZN, Inzaghi explained why he didn’t want to look for excuses for the result:
“We didn’t know what kind of match we were going to face. Genoa are doing well, it was a hard-fought match. I cannot blame the boys for anything, but we had to defend better on their goal.
“In the second half leading would have been different. We wanted to win, all games bring pitfalls. It’s normal that we wanted to win, then matches are decided by episodes. We had never conceded a goal from a set piece. In the second half it was not easy, we moved the ball faster and created an important chance with Acerbi”.
“We have to keep everything and give continuity to these 18 games. We are at the halfway point, it is still long and there will be difficulties. There we should be even better”.#
“We met an intense team, we had to move the ball faster. We must highlight Genoa’s merits, they deserved the point”.
“The injury absences? It must not be an alibi. They are three big players, we hope to have the first two back from the next one. We didn’t manage to come up against a very good team’.
