Inzaghi: ‘For what we created we should have scored more than one goal in the first half’

Sassuolo delivered a shock defeat on Wednesday night as they secured a 2-1 win over league leaders Inter at San Siro. Head coach Simone Inzaghi spoke to DAZN after the game and was positive about the Nerazzurri display despite the loss. He discussed the similarities between Real Sociedad and the Neroverdi, as well as Domenico Berardi:

On the team’s performance: “We had a good first half against a team of quality and health. For what we created we should have scored more than one goal in the first half, then in the second we came back well and there was the injury that made it 1-1: from there we were no longer able to keep our distance, to be lucid and then there was Berardi’s feat. Then we lost clarity.”

On the similarities between Sassuolo and Real Sociedad: “Sassuolo and Real Sociedad have some similarities. In the first half we were good at covering the pitch, we only allowed two restarts. There we had to be better with the balls that reached the area for our players midfielders and attackers. We could have scored more goals, then in even games there can be episodes that can turn against you and there we had to be better at concentration: if you lose clarity and distance it becomes difficult.”

On Berardi: “Berardi deserves a lot of credit for the goal, both he and Laurientée are important players. Berardi has great ballistic qualities, we know him. It was a Euro goal, you don’t see many of those. We had to be more of a team after the 1-2.”
