Simone Inzaghi says qualifying early from the Champions League group stages makes Inter ‘proud’ of their accomplishment. The Nerazzurri have been in impeccable form in the competition and have booked a place in the last 16 with two matches to space, something Inzaghi was particularly pleased with when speaking after their 1-0 win over RB Salzburg:
“The guys were very good, regardless of who played. The team has had a great match against a team that has remarkable physical values. It’s hard to play against them.”
“Qualifying two games in advance is a source of pride. It’s been a long time since Inter had this shift in so many years. We are very satisfied but we know there are two games to play.”
“Clearly the UEFA Champions League matches are not easy. We also suffered, but we defended as a team: we probably suffered more at San Siro.”
“From Bergamo onwards we will have 5 tough trips. The timetable said this and we have to adapt. The first two went well. Now let’s think about closing well at home. After the international break we will think about Naples, Benfica and Juventus.
“Lautaro Martinez is a very important player for us. He always has a lot of desire, he did very well. We had opted for Calhanoglu playing lower at the beginning of the buildup.”
