Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has spoken to the media ahead of his side’s Champions League clash away to Real Sociedad on Wednesday night. The Nerazzurri kick off their Champions League campaign with an away trip to Sociedad. They managed to reach the final of the competition last season but were defeated by Manchester City in the final.
Inzaghi’s side have made a phenomenal start to the 2023/24 Serie A season and have won all four of their opening league matches, including a vehement 5-1 triumph over rivals Milan in the Derby della Madonnina over the weekend. Inzaghi has spoken about the upcoming clash against Sociedad, the loss of Hakan Calhanoglu and Kristjan Asllani:
On last season’s Champions League final and this year’s tournament: “We know what happened in the final in Istanbul, we left behind something special about that night. The way our fans responded, it seemed like we had won. This year we start again, against a strong opponent and on a difficult pitch. (Sociedad) were one of the fourth pot teams I would have avoided but we will have to play against them knowing that it will be difficult to repeat ourselves”.
On the importance of Calhanoglu: “An important absence, Cuadrado will also not be there. We have many close games and we will change something. We have Asllani, who was requested by many teams but we decided to keep him because we believe in him.”
Whether Asllani is prepared: “Yes, he has already played other important matches. He is prepared to play like the others. After waking up tomorrow, I will decide.”
