Inter Milan, led by coach Simone Inzaghi, are gearing up for a crucial UEFA Champions League match against RB Leipzig at San Siro. Following a commanding victory over Hellas Verona, Inter are set to face Leipzig on Tuesday. On the eve of the match, Inzaghi shared his thoughts in a press conference.
Speaking to Sky Sport, Inzaghi acknowledged Leipzig’s experience in the Champions League, noting, “Leipzig? They’ve participated in the Champions League for six years and reached the semifinals in 2020. They have a distinct style and play good football.” He also addressed concerns about Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s fitness, saying, “He wanted to play against Verona, but we rested him as a precaution. There’s confidence for both him and Lautaro. If they’re fit, they’ll be part of the match.”
In the press conference, Inzaghi expressed his ambition to reach another final: “Is there a desire to return to the final? Yes, it’s natural to feel that way, but we know there are other strong teams. We need to focus on finishing this phase and qualifying for the round of 16. We should take it one game at a time.”
Discussing the condition of San Siro’s pitch, Inzaghi remarked, “The field against Napoli wasn’t ideal; both teams complained. It’s always challenging from mid-November through December every year. We hope it will be redone in January as usual.” He added, “The atmosphere at San Siro is incredible. I hope to stay as long as possible to enjoy this fantastic support.”
Inzaghi also commented on Yann Bisseck’s progress: “He came from the Danish league but quickly learned Italian and understood our requirements. Both he and Bastoni can replace Acerbi, but Alessandro might have more chances given his national team experience.”
Reflecting on his journey with Inter, Inzaghi stated, “I’ve been fortunate to join an important club and work with talented players who have always supported me. I’m aware of the criticism that comes with wrong formations or substitutions, but it’s part of the game. I just hope to continue making history with this club.”
