Zinho Vanheusden is on the verge of leaving Inter Milan once again, this time for a return to the Belgian league. The 24-year-old central defender, who is under contract with Inter until June 30, 2026, is set to join Mechelen on loan.
Calciomercato report that the former Standard Liege captain has already completed his medical examination for the Belgian club, with only final details remaining before the official announcement of his loan move from Inter. Reports suggest that Mechelen has also negotiated a purchase option with Inter as part of the deal.
Vanheusden’s highest valuation came in 2021 when Inter re-signed him from Standard Liege for €16 million. This figure serves as a reference point for understanding the conditions under which Inter might be willing to sell him and the impact on their balance sheet. As of June 30, 2024, the residual cost of his contract was just under €6 million. With his current contract running until June 30, 2026, and an annual gross salary of only €185,000, the annual impact on Inter’s balance sheet is approximately €3.15 million.
The key question now is whether this figure will be sufficient to avoid a capital loss for Inter. The club will be keen to structure the deal in a way that balances their financial interests with Vanheusden’s career development.
