Inter’s Champions League squad dilemma: Who could miss out?

Start

As the Champions League approaches, Inter Milan are finalizing their squad list ahead of their opening match against Manchester City on September 18. By midnight tomorrow, the club must submit their UEFA list, with three players vying for a single spot. This decision will be made when the team reconvenes at Appiano Gentile after a brief rest following their victory over Atalanta.

UEFA Squad Criteria

Each club is required to submit two lists: List A and List B. List A, due by Thursday at midnight, includes 25 players, with at least two goalkeepers. Eight players must be homegrown, with four having trained at the club’s academy. List B, submitted before each match, includes players born on or after January 1, 2001, who have been registered with the club for at least two years since age 15.

The Selection Battle

Inter faces a selection challenge, with excess players in the squad. The decision on who to exclude from European competition involves Joaquin Correa, Tómas Palacios, and the currently injured Tajon Buchanan. The club’s management and coach Simone Inzaghi will make the final decision tomorrow.

Palacios Leading the Race

Simone Inzaghi has depth in both attack and defense, but excluding Palacios could create a numerical issue in defense. This makes the young Tómas Palacios the likely candidate for inclusion, allowing Buchanan to recover from injury and Correa to focus on domestic competitions. While these are just speculations, the official decision will be revealed soon.
