As Inter Milan’s squad jets off to Riyadh for the Italian Supercup, defender Alessandro Bastoni took some time to engage with fans in an Instagram Q&A session. The Italian international, who recently scored in Inter’s victory against Cagliari, shared insights into his nickname, memorable moments, and team dynamics.
When asked about his peculiar nickname “Gerry,” Bastoni revealed its unexpected origin: “It comes from ‘giraffe.’ Dimarco invented it when we were in Parma, referring to my long limbs.” The defender also touched on his recent goal against Cagliari, admitting it was unintentional. “I score about two a year, so it’s rare. It’s only happened in Cagliari,” he quipped.
Bastoni named Sergio Ramos as his childhood idol, showing his admiration for the Spanish defensive legend. When reflecting on the most cherished moment of 2024, Bastoni didn’t hesitate: “The derby will remain forever,” he stated, highlighting the significance of Inter’s rivalry matches.
Describing Inter with a single word, Bastoni chose “family,” emphasizing the close-knit nature of the squad. Recalling his favorite Supercup moment, he mentioned, “Sanchez’s last-second goal against Juventus immediately comes to mind.”
Interestingly, Bastoni revealed that the team isn’t particularly superstitious. “We’re not very superstitious, we live very much day by day,” he explained, giving insight into the team’s grounded approach to their success.
